Sick Visits
| The Forest Lakes Pediatric Center offers a sick visit the same day a parent calls for an appointment with the assumption that an illness may progress and require hospitalization if not evaluated and managed early in its course. Although many illnesses in children are self-limited, it can help parents greatly to know what is actually wrong, how long the illness may last, how to minister to the child's needs, and how to recognize complications so that they may be addressed early. During a sick visit, Dr. Wax obtains a detailed history of the illness and how it has impacted on the childs life. A focused examination is performed and sometimes additional tests (blood, urine, and or x-rays) are ordered. The normal brief sick visit is scheduled for 15 minutes but longer appointments are available for complex problems. Incidentally, the center has separate sick and well waiting rooms. The average wait at the center is currently less than 15 minutes. |
