The Physical Examinations
The Physical exam is also known as a well - child/adolescent visit and not only includes a full body exam with immunizations but an emphasis on the stages of physical, mental, and psychologic development. Age-specific issues relating to nutrition, safety, and behavior are considered an integral part of the well visit. The various stream of development are followed in infancy and toddler hood. For the school-aged child emphasis is placed on encouraging appropriate peer relations and a satisfying school experience. In adolescence, issues such as taking responsiblilty for one's actions, parental respect, sexuality, and successful adjustment to difficult and stressful situations are emphasized. With each visit Dr. Wax performs an age-specific risk analysis based on family and environmental exposure to history. For instance, if there is a family history of early heart attacks, a lipid test would be ordered. If there is lead exposure, then a lead level is ordered. In summary, the physical exams/ well - child visit is a time when the child's full health, present and future, is considered in great detail.
